"Sondai Fort - Trekking Experience" by Kunjan

SONDAI KILLA TREK WITH PARVAT BUDDIES ON 1st Dec 2019
Trek Experience shared by Kunjan.

The trek doesn't start when you start the climb. The trek starts in the mind since the moment you have planned to go for it. You prepare your bag with all foresightedness and still there will be something you forget. So this Sunday on 1st Dec after more than one year I and my husband started for the trek.

As usual struggle for the auto n u need to walk till the station with the anxiety of missing the train. Thanks to UTS app atleast we had tickets ready. There comes the train to karjat n we start our journey. A few selfies n few pics with little chitchat n masti. It gets cold as we cross Mumbai. And you realise the winter is here. A beautiful sunrise reminds you .. u must step out of the house early in the morning. Don't get tempted by the quilt to be in bed .be it walking running cycling or just go to the place to witness the sunrise.

After a delicious breakfast n garmagaram tea we head towards the village. I had chosen this trek coz the description said easy. N I should have known there are no easy treks in this world and it is there it is not in my fate. Parin the trek leader had something else in his mind. Instead of the regular easier path that he always takes he chose to venture out for the new route which is longer. Not tougher just longer.

In the beginning we were all so delighted to see the beautiful range of sondai Killa in front of us. And there was just one dam between we  n Killa. Very beautiful view of the entire range and the full reflection in the dam water.

Here starts the trek. We passed through vavarle village. We took two boys from the village who can show us the way. It was all going good. Everyone chitchating ,taking pics n excited kept walking . The route was kind of downhill for quite a some time. And then comes the tougher route that we were waiting for. At this juction after a walk of about one n a half hrs. Some were quite tired. It was a walk against the climate. Climate was getting very hot n humid. With very little tree shade n sun straight on us.

Everyone was running out of water . I really enjoyed oranges first time in life in this trek. They tasted so sweet in such hot climate. And ofcourse enerzal drink kept us moving ahead.

Some wanted to quit n even Parin kept us warning about the hot climate n barren land ahead. Still very stubborn to finish the trek we decided to continue leaving two of us behind in good shade.

On the way we saw a young boy vomiting due to sunstroke. But we were quite determined to go ahead. Saw so many girls treking back barefoot. Many youngsters returning after completing the trek. There were some group of boys n girls they were cooking food there. And ofcourse they had taken the shorter n easier route. Slowly n steadily we continued. There were 3-4 places very tricky where we need trekking skills to go ahead n Parin helped us at all times.

There were ladders now at a couple of places that made this trek quite easy. There is a temple at the summit. And after a short break of relaxing at the peak and a few pics we started heading down. As expected treking down was more difficult than climbing up. And there was no way out but to come down so aage badho jawan and we reached down quite fast with few struggles. And I could see those whom we left behind before going up and with full excitement when I was going towards them ,forgot the rule of trekking to go slow fell with a  thud on the rocks on my bump. Didn't know should I cry or  laugh .. continued the trek. There were some cramps may be because of dehydration at certain point. And very soon we saw the built road that was the end of the trek. And ofcourse the sugarcane juice that tastes so sweet and wanted at this time. Thanks to my husband and of course Parin for the wonderful funfilled day. It was so nice to meet all the team members.
